Repair or replace? How to decide what’s right for your device

A simple rule of thumb for whether a repair is worth it, and when it makes more sense to put the money towards a new device.

When a device breaks, the first question is always the same: fix it or replace it? The answer usually comes down to three things — the cost of the repair, the age of the device, and how you use it.

The 50% rule

A repair is almost always worth it when it costs less than half the price of a comparable new device. A $199 screen repair on a phone worth $1,200 is an easy yes. The same repair on an eight-year-old device that no longer gets updates is a harder call.

Consider the device’s future

Ask whether the device will still be supported and useful after the repair. Battery and screen repairs extend the life of a phone for years. Repairs to very old devices can be worth it for sentimental value, but set expectations.

Get a free quote first

The best way to decide is with an accurate quote. Book a diagnostic and we’ll tell you exactly what’s wrong, what it costs to fix, and — honestly — whether it’s worth fixing at all. The diagnostic fee is waived if you go ahead with the repair.
